for Business Owners
I’m a web developer who works with creative small business owners. Bringing your existing design to life, or collaborating with a designer to go from dream to launch.
Here’s a quick overview of our time together.
Code is my true love – I can develop a custom website for you that does it all and is crazy-easy to use – so if you already have a design ready, great! on to step two. If not, step one is hiring a designer you love, who can design the site your business needs. I’m happy to suggest a number of designers if you need any help finding the right one.
Estimate & Booking
With a finished design in hand, we’ll begin the booking process together. I’ll ask you a series of questions to determine the scope of the project, and deliver you an estimate with both cost and timeframe.
Once the estimate is approved, I will send over an invoice and customized contract. You are officially booked once the deposit has been paid, and the contract signed.
Your development will begin once the design files have been received on the date scheduled. I use a dedicated private server throughout development to ensure your current site remains live until you are ready to launch.
Testing & Training
Once complete your private beta-site will be sent to the designer for review and then to you for final approval. We’ll go through training together so you know the in’s and out’s of your new site, and don’t worry a custom guide is provided to reference for the future.
The last step is the final payment and then launch of your new site. I take care of everything on the tech side including domain/host setup and any content transfers from previous sites, so you’re able to relax and get excited about sharing your new site with the world!
How long does development take?
The length of development is very dependant on the scope of the project – on average portfolio sites and blogs tend to take 1 – 2 weeks from the time I receive the designs to the site being submitted back your designer for review. Larger membership sites and stores average 2-4 weeks. Things move fairly quickly from review to your launch date.
How much will my project cost?
While the cost of each project is based on the size and complexity of the site, I like to keep this part simple by offering a consistent rate for custom theme installation, configuration & communication/training + a flat-rate per page. Fees tend to range between $2,500 – $10,000 with complex membership, eCommerce and payment processing sites falling at the higher end.
Note: Content entry post-development & rush sites have additional fees.
What platform do you use?
Almost all of my sites are custom built using the WordPress platform, a free, open-source CMS that is user and SEO friendly, offering the ability to handle any type of website. I develop custom WordPress themes using a base framework to increase speed of development.
*In very special cases sites may be built outside of WordPress, either on another CMS or without the use of one. This is determined based on the needs of the client.
Will I be able to make changes myself?
Absolutely! With a thoughtful and clean dashboard you will be able to update your content as much as you’d like. We will review everything you may wish to update during your training so you feel confident managing your site into the future – oh and there’s a handy guide provided just in case you need it.
What's included in the development package?
Every development package includes:
- A fully custom WordPress Theme.
- Responsive (mobile) design.
- A custom backend so the your content is simple and easy to edit.
- Branded 404 and Search results pages.
- Access to a private server so we are able to view, review and edit your site before it goes live.
- Google Analytics and Search Console configuration including Site Map submission.
- Training & a custom guide for the future.
What is "responsive"?
Responsive web design means a website is able to respond to the user’s behavior and environment based on screen size, platform and orientation – meaning no matter what device a person is accessing your website on, it always looks amazing.
Your website exists to share information, and responsive design makes that information available to everyone whether they’re using a screen reader, phone, tablet or desktop.
These days it is absolutely essential a website is responsive, in fact as of April 2015 Google penalizes sites that aren’t mobile-friendly (you can read more about that, and test your current site here ) which is why responsive design is included with every website I develop.
I'm a designer & need a developer to bring my designs to life, can you help?
Absolutely! Check out the Process for Designers page for more information.
